Zaidolastik: Which is better Zaido or Lastikman?

Who is Lastikman?
Lastikman is a fictional character and superhero created by Filipino comics legend Mars Ravelo. Lastikman appears to have debuted in comics format – certainly in Aliwan Komiks (1964). There has been many movies in the past 50 years about Lastikman, and this character was portrayed by Von Serna (1958), Vic Sotto (2003), Mark Bautista (2004) and lastly the new television series starring Vhong Navarro as Lastikman. The costume design has long since improved since it was first conceptualized by Mars Ravelo, but the checkered design and the mask remained as his defining style.
Who is Zaido?
Zaido is an elite group of space sheriffs started by Gallian, a descendant of Dai Sawamura, the second Shaider. This television series from GMA is a spin-off from a popular Japanese TV series Metal Hero Shaider. Originally this was supposed to be a remake of the original Japanese TV series but the script was allegedly turned down by TOEI (Tōei Company, Limited) but allowed them to use the Shaider series not as a remake but a spin-off or sequel.
Looking at the first episodes today on both Zaido and Lastikman, I could say both have a good start. The Zaido has a more futuristic feel compared to Lastikman and Lastikman is more filipino than Zaido. Zaido reminds me of the silly Japanese TV series like Godzilla, Ultraman and the likes, but in tagalog. Lastikman reminds me of Mr. Fantastic and Fantastic Man (played by Mark Herras few months ago) with all the same powers they possess.
Comparing the 3D animation and special effects, it is clear that Zaido has the better quality graphics and Lastikman looked rushed and unfinished.
Although both have an alien beginnings Lastikman is more into our way of thinking. It has the filipino feel we see on all the previous Pinoy Fiction TV series and I think this will be well liked more by everyone who loves everything filipino. Zaido however, with its clean design and 3D work, it looks very foreign than filipino. But this only goes to show that we too can replicate, innovate, recreate anything done by other countries and GMA has been doing great work ever since I saw their first 3D effect more than 10 years ago (remember the image of a man with arms wide open and a rainbow connecting both his hands?).
Why women would want to see Zaido? Aside from the story, they would surely would want to see the handsome Dennis Trillo and the group on TV every night. Why men would want to see Lastikman? I suspect one reason is because the pretty Iya Villania and Toni Gonzala will be on the whole season. Sometimes an episode sucks to bad that the only reason one would watch is because their favorite actors/actresses are there.
So which is better Lastikman or Zaido? I would love to hear your thoughts :)

Do you know the villains? They never showed up on Mark’s or Vic’s version of Lastikman.
GMA is like a recycling factory. Marimar? Zaido? and omg, Meteor Garden??? I think anyone can tell the whole story…there’s no thrill at all.

Di nadadaan sa rating ang ganda ng isang palabas, as an avid fan and avid viewer of shaider in the early 90’s, di pa kaya magpalabas ng mga pinoy ng mga ganitong palabas. dapat nagreresearch muna cla tungkol sa mga gagamitin nilang mga costume at ung mga palabas na katulad nito sa japan. Sa mga tokatsu sa japan, halos 1 day lang ang mga monsters dun, kc once per week lang ang palabas, eh dito, kahit na naka 1 week na di pa rin nagpapakita ung mga monster, hay, im sick and tired sa mga network wars saka mga pataasan ng rating. ung mga iba kc react ng react di muna nila nireresearch kung ito bang zaido eh totoong sequel o rif off lang ng shaider. sana sa susunod wag na gawin ulit ng seven na kunuha ng mga japan shows para lang sa mga artista nila. tignan nyu nangyari sa lupin saka sa super twins, wa kwenta, baka nga gawin nila ung dragon ball in filipino version, hahahaha, anu waht?? may princess sarah na gagwing filipino version?? waaaaahhh, sana lang wag sana masira lahat ng mga childhood memories ko…

What I don’t like about Zaido is its multiple flaws:
1. The timeline is incompatible with the original. I mean, if this was supposed to be a spin-off/homage to the classic Shaider, they shouldn’t have presented the actors as the “grandchildren” of Shaider. I mean, grandfathers are supposed to be fifty or sixty years old when their grandchildren were BORN, what more when the grandchildren are in their 20’s? The writers of this show should have thought about that.
2. There were presence of characters or elements from other franchise. I swear, when I saw Commander Zion, I immediately thought “It’s Bison of Streetfighter!” and the BADGE! God, it looked very similar to the communication device in Star Trek!
I don’t know if the production staff are losing their creativity but, they should be reminded that there’s such thing as COPYRIGHT.
3. The show is reeking with loveteams. I read somewhere from the show’s insider that the reason why they wrote multiple liaisons is because we Filipinos love the Crisostomo Ibarra-Maria Clara loveteam in every form of entertainment. I acknowledge that we’re Filipinos and I’m proud of what I am. But, many remember that Shaider became a hit eventhough there’s more emphasis on battles with monsters and there’s only little hint of Alexis and Annie’s chemistry. I don’t see why we have to put more emphasis on he-loves-her-she-loves-this-that just to make it a hit.
4. In the previous interviews, director Dominic Zapata said that Zaido is the updated version–but why are the costumes so crappy? Why speak endless meaningless tirade of Scientific jargon when a little research in the part of the writers can help establish scientific truth in the story? Why? Why?
Many Shaider fans are displeased with the treatment. If GMA greenlit this show for us, why did they present this crap instead of consulting those who have thorough knowledge on the original Space Sheriff? Aside from that, they continue to ignore our complaints. Didn’t they know that turning a deaf ear only weakens the show’s credibility?

We are aiming to raise consciousness on what a real Tokusatsu show should look like, and not some tearjerky, sappy soap opera disguised to make it similar to an action show.

well All the comments on Zaido is actually true and it really destroy ung image ng Tokatsu… GMA7 is just boasting there ratings now ABS CBN is making some legal actions about this Fraud Ratings.
Zaido is very out of place and sayang sana ABS na lang gumwa ng Zadio.. Look at Lastikman ang ganda ng phasing ng story and halos every episode my action at bakbakan like Shaider and Mask Rider Black.
GMA7 really don’t know Shaider. Sorry to tell mga kapuso.
And Lastikman, i really like the way it was presented and how it portray. Kung nabasa nyo ung new version ng Lastikman sa komiks heheheh basta basahin nyo..
