Seminar on Internet Marketing

Mito sent an invitation to all SEO Philippines members to attend a free half-day seminar on Internet Marketing by US Auto Parts Philippines (Formerly MBSTEK), and I am happy to say that I got listed to participate on this event. I will be attending the seminar on January 26th at the MBSTEK Office.
Here is an overview on what will be discussed on the said event:

Elymar Apao (Web Usability Experience Manager) started the Internet Marketing Seminar. He talked a little about the company, US Auto Parts (Formerly MBSTEK), about the Speakers and an Introduction on Internet Marketing. We were also forced to introduce ourselves to everybody (haha!)
Alvin Jimenez (Email Marketing Manager) talked about Email Marketing. Revenues generated by Email Marketing in the US, and in US Auto Parts. How each Email Marketing campaign is done (Concept Spreadsheet Images, Proofreading and Campaign Release). The Essential Components of an Email Campaign (Site Logo, Main Offer, Call to Action, Contact Information). Lifecycle of Emails (Records of sales made and possible upselling). How we can apply Email Marketing in the Philippines. Recommended reading sites are RetailEmail.blogspot.com, MarketingSherpa.com and Email-Marketing-Reports.com.
Rhiza Sanchez (SEO Project Manager) talked about Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing. What you need to know to become an Effective SEM Specialist. Other topics include: Search Engine Marketing 101, Why SEM? (You will see that 85% of all site visits are from search results and 90% of all Search Engine users does not go beyond the first 30 sites), Difference between Organic Listing and Paid Listing, How Search Engines Work, How are Pages Ranked, On Page SEO Techniques (Title tags, Meta Descriptions, Body Content, Alt and Title Tags, Header Tags, Interlinks, etc.), Things to Avoid on On Page (Flash based, Javascripts, Too Many Parameters, Non-standard Characters, Keyword Spamming, Mirror Sites), Off Page Optimization (Competitor’s Link Profile Analysis, Submissions, Interactions), Things to Avoid on Off Page (Link Farms, Comment / Forum Spamming, Linking to Bad Neighborhoods, Unnatural Link Structures), Negative SEO (Someone blackhatting you…), US Auto Parts Team (Search Engine Marketing is divided to SEO and PPC, SEO is divided to On Page and Off Page, and under both are SEO Specialists and Internet Marketing Specialists and Copywriters, Designers, Programmers)
Gabriel Libacao Jr. (SEO Project Manager) continued talking about Off Page SEO, starting with checking how many pages the site has (by typing site:alfredo.palconit.com). He also talked about SEODigger.com to check your competitor’s optimized keywords. He also talked about Off Page Optimization where off page factors are important (just like Adobe.com ranked 1 for keyphrase ‘click here’). You will also know that rankings are based from these factors (70% off page and 30% on page). You can check a site’s age by visiting Whois.sc.

Jennelyn Tabora (Copy Editing Head) talked about Online Copyrighting. How to Improve your Website Content. A good writer must know the proper Structure, Grammar, Punctuation. She also talked about a Panda that eats, shoots and leaves (?). Write with honestly, passion and with engaging quality. You content must be conversational, not too formal. A writer will consider keyword density and keyword placement when writing. How writing attract and build relationships (Content must have a human voice, valuable information and interactive by responding to responses), You have to be a good writer, proper grammar and you have to be engaging, and you must have the passion to be successful.
Rico Sta. Cruz (Creative Director) talked about the Essential Principles on Web Design. 1) Get the content. 2) Set a site heirarchy (headliners, emphasis on content). 3) Choosing the right font/s. 4) Grid or Layout (how the content is displayed) 5. Visual Structure by adding boxes etc. 6) Choosing the right Color 7) Add some image for illustration
Michael Joseph Villar (Affiliate Marketing Manager) talked about Affiliate Marketing. Performance Based Marketing. Pay Per Sale. Pay Per Lead or Pay Per Subscription. Commission Schemes (Flat Rate Dollar Amount just like FriendFinder.com, Percentage like Amazon.com). Affiliate Program Success Metrics (Average Order Size, Cookie Life, Earnings Per 100 Clicks, Good Data Feed, Navigation and Design of the Merchant Site, Reliable Tracking, Reversal Rate, Demographical Coverage, Unique Selling Proposition, Affiliate Support). Impact on Internet Advertising from 1994 to the Present (1994 was 50% click through, now its only 0.5%). Wallpaper Effect and Ad Pollution (too many ads, too many clutter). Optimizing Ad Campaign (Control File Size, Clear Graphics and Message, Less is More).
Maia Nuguid (Senior Web Analytics Specialist) talked about Web Analytics. Assessment of Data (Website Traffic, Web Based Transactions, Web Server Performance, Usability Studies). E-commerce brands, Affiliate Marketers and Internet Marketers should be doing Web Analytics. A Web Analyst’s goal is to deliver actional insights and metrics. Analyst’s measure visitor’s behavior (click density, key metrics, segmentation), orders or leads (conversions, revenues, abandonment). Research Customer Satisfaction, Usability. They use AWStats, Omniture and Offermatica.
Elymar Apao (Web Usability Experience Manager) is back on more discussion on Web Analytics and showed several video presentations of US Auto Parts.
