Joyce: The electricity bill depends on where you stay, size of your house and no of people. You can expect to pay betweek 16-30K with a family of 4-5 (plus 3 helpers), 4 bedroom house in a prime subdivision.
Or about 7-10K for a 3 bedroom house with 3 adults and a helper.
If you are going to live in a condo, estimate would be about 2-3K, that is if you work outside your home.

I got this from people I know who are living in those areas I mentioned (as of Jan 2010).

Hi,

as a philippino living in Europe since 1982 I have to say that the cost of internet connection is ridicilliously high for the service you get. 2mb speed? I pay 3500 pesos (56 euro) for a 25mb speed connection

Anyway, nice website, the info on this sit are very useful to me as I am thinking about to live and work in Makati someday.

Hi Alfredo, thanks for this post! I’m considering relocating to Makati and this certainly helps in gauging how much costs will be involved and how much salary to expect from the companies in Makati!

I’d like your advice on accomodation in Ayala Avenue – how much is the rental per month for say, a 1-bedroom apartment?

Also, the electricity bills of PHP20k to PHP30k per month is rather shocking, is this current rate for real???

Makati’s electricity costs are the highest in Asia now. Last year (2008), Tokyo had the most expensive electricity costs in Asia, but yea…now it’s Makati! So, you are very incorrect in saying that you will only spend 2500 pesos on electricity bills per month. It’s more expensive than the US now, so expect to spend 20,000 to 30,000 pesos on electricity bills a month.

i strongly agree that makati is an expensive place to live. i find it hard to maintain a decent lifestyle here but i do not want to transfer to another place because i really love my neighborhood. it is very peaceful, clean and accessible.

regarding this paragraph: Nowadays the cheapest way to stay in Makati is renting a bed space,…laundry area etc are shared by everybody. This is good for people earning the minimum monthly salary. >> actually, in some boarding houses or dorms they do not allow any cooking and doing the laundry that’s why you need to spend some money on eating or buying food outside as well as for laundry shops.
