Why Filipina Women don’t wear skirts anymore

I noticed that most women no longer wear skirts anymore. Most of them wear tight jeans, very short short pants, and shorts that look like skirts in the outside. I don’t know why no one prefers to wear skirts in public, so I did a little research.
I’ve conducted a little experiment few weeks back in SM Megamall to see how many ladies are wearing skirts (”Palda” in Tagalog or “Sayal” in Cebuano) and I found out that only 8 out of 100 women wear skirts on public.
Out of eight women, 4 of them are wearing office uniforms, 2 are wearing school uniforms and 2 are wearing casual attire. If you don’t count the uniforms, you will only get two women out of 100 who prefer wearing skirts than pants or shorts.
I asked some ladies about this and they all give the same reasons.
- Some have hair on their legs. Parang lalake.
- Some have scars and unsightly marks on their legs. Not Wow Legs.
- Some have big legs. They prefer to have slimmer legs.
- Women can now wear pants when they like it. It’s a different world now.
- Pants are more comfortable. Skirts are just for formal occasions.
Basically its a matter of confidence and practicality. Some ladies are shy to show their legs and some prefer pants because its more comfortable, it avoids accidental or intentional exposure of their underwear and possible harassment.
Personally I think women should wear skirts, not pants, tight pants, low rise jeans, shorts, tattered jeans etc. Women look better wearing skirts, it brings out the lady in a woman. Well, we all have the right to wear anything we want.

Great to hear that encouragement. I’m one of the Filipinas who still love wearing skirts in public. And I will continue to do so.
