Today is the Independence Day

Around a hundred years ago we were under the harsh and cruel rule of a European colonial empire who was also desperate in keeping her remaining territories.
A lot of people have fought and died trying to free our country from this foreign ruler for over 300 years. Thanks to the Americans, they bought our country’s freedom from Spain and helped us build our nation and also saved us from the Japanese invaders. We owe so much gratitude from the United States but we still needed our independence and prefer to rule the country ourselves than being ruled by a foreigner.
Personally, I think the Philippine-American friendship day as the true Independence Day for our country since that was the day when we are truly independent from a foreign rule. But our constitution changed that and made the Aguinaldo’s Declaration of Independence the official date of our Independence.
Remembering the efforts and struggles our leaders have done for our country, from Lapu-Lapu to Jose Rizal and to the rest of our beloved heroes should be an inspiration to all of us, that we should not be a foreigner of our own country and to love our country by helping in any way we can.

Yeah right. I jsut hope we can start off giving real value to what our heroes have done. It seems we still haven\’t done so. Our country still sucks, big time.
