Ballet Manila’s Romeo and Juliet at Trinoma

Tonight (6pm) there will be a presentation of Ballet Manila’s version of Romeo and Juliet, featuring Prima Ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, here at the TriNoma Mall and organized by 33rd Street Event Productions.

Update: The Romeo and Juliet Ballet was somewhat like an interpretative dance (or are all ballet performances  interpretative dance?) and it retells one of the best plays of William Shakespeare. Since I have seen the Leonardo di Caprio and Claire Danes version of Romeo and Juliet, I kinda understood the story behind the hour long jumping, leg-spreading and the tip-toe-walking performance that ballet is very well known of. If you haven’t read or seen Romeo and Juliet before, you will not understand what is happening during the dance.

Since it was my first time seeing a ballet concert, I was curious on how it will be like. My first impression was their excessively tight tights and their petite bodies, giving me an impression that one can never be a ballerina if one is fat or big. I also find some parts boring because they have been running and jumping for minutes and I don’t know what they are doing.

I will post more in this section as we go along. I hope I can get some pictures of the eventGotta love the free WiFi Internet here at Trinoma! ;) Read above for the event updates.

Although I am having mixed reactions to the concert, my overall reaction is positive and I would like to see more ballet perfomances and understand more about this ‘for rich people only’ dance.

Why am I here? 33rd Street Productions contacted me last week, asking if I could help in the upcoming event. My contribution of this event was a PowerPoint converted to Video presentation of the sponsors played on a 32″ flat LCD screen. I also designed the large mall banners, posters, post cards and newspaper ads. Unfortunately, I missed the deadline set by TriNoma and the designs were never used.
