National Treasure: Book of Secrets Movie Review
Posted on January 13th, 2008 | |
Last Wednesday I went SM Megamall to see National Treasure: Book of Secrets. I hoped to see the movie before Christmas, but it wasn’t a simultaneous international release.
The movies was very much like a family event, where all of the Gates family were involved in finding the treasure. Another treasure hunter, Mitch Wilkinson (played by Ed Harris) is the one that started it all. He made the Gates family and the media believe that the Ben Gates’ great great grandfather was the mastermind behind the assassination of former President Abraham Lincoln (which was later proven false). Ben’s pursuit to prove his ancestor’s innocence led to a mission of finding a lost City of Gold which is located near Mount Rushmore.
Check here if the DVD version is already avalailable for sale.
Unlike the first National Treasure movie, the National Treasure: Book of Secrets focuses more of the treasure found in America only, not treasures collected from all over the world and stored in the United States. I would say this the real National Treasure of the United States and the discovered Templar Treasure of the first movie should be called International Treasure.
There is also a hint of a 3rd National Treasures movie wherein in could involve the contents on Page 47 of the Presidential Book of Secrets. The only clue revealed so far is that it’s “life altering”. Jerry Bruckheimer always loves to leave people wanting too see the next movie like the cliffhanger of the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (Buy a DVD of the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest here.).
Recommendation: The movie should not be treated as entirely factual just like on the first movie. Many of the facts are altered to prove something that doesn’t exist. If the City of Gold does exist on Mount Rushmore, we would have known it already. Other than that, it’s a good adventure movie for the whole family.
