Jumper Movie Review
Posted on February 13th, 2008 |
2008 Science Fiction - Action and Adventure movie Jumper is now on Philippine cinemas (February 13, a day early from the worldwide release which is tomorrow February 14) and I was so excited to see the movie at SM Megamall.
This movie is based from Steven Gould’s science fiction novel of the same title (Read the novel here). I first heard of the Jumper movie last Christmas season while waiting for the movie National Treasure Book of Secrets to hit the theaters. The trailer was very well done that I became interested to see the movie when it will be shown in the country. (Did you know that Philippines is one of the few countries in the world to see Worldwide Release Movie a day ahead of schedule?)
The general idea of this movie is that there was a young boy who found out that he can teleport to any place he wants, and there are organizations trying to kill him because they think his powers cannot be tolerated. For him to teleport, he must know where to go and he must at least see the place he wants to go. It is kinda like what The Night Crawler said in film, X-Men United wherein he can only teleport to places where he can see ahead. Although teleportation is impossible, it is now becoming a reality as scientists can now teleport one atom from one place to another using quantum physics.
There is a part of the movie that Jumpers (teleporters, if you like) have been with us over the centuries. This statement has some truth into it as historical records shows a certain Gil Perez, a Guardia Civil based in the Philippines, teleported from Manila to Mexico on October 24, 1593. You can only imagine how many months it would take to travel by ship during the 16th century, but Gil Perez arrived to Mexico in just a single moment in time.
Overall, it is a good movie for all who love action movies. I cannot tell any spoilers as I recommend you go and see the movie.
The movie can move so fast that you might feel dizzy after a few minutes of watching them teleport from one country to another. Don’t worry, you will most likely not experience motion sickness like the fast paced, ‘Blair Witch meets Godzilla’ movie, Cloverfield.
Recommendation: Like sci-fi movies? Go and buy a ticket at your favorite cinemas!

At last, it’s showing on cinemas. I’m interested on what they say “Bourne meets the Matrix” in the trailers.

Shane, I never saw the Bourne meets the Matrix in the film. It is more like X-Men without the X-men.
I am thinking that If I have this power and Frank Cadillac’s (from the movie, Next) power to see the future, I can do anything I want.

Seen the movie last Monday. I’ve gotta agree with you on that.
I’m counting on a sequel. Time travel, perhaps?
