Posted on November 19th, 2007 | Subscribe in a Reader | Subscribe by Email

Google Developer Day 2007Tonight I went to ACCEED Conference Center, Makati City to attend Google Developer Day 2007. Pinoy Googlers from the Google Headquarters including Aileen Apolo were the speakers of the event.

The 3-hour event full of talks and a powerpoint presentation was about inviting web developers to contribute to Google’s new services and talks about their plans for the Filipino IT Community. Here below is the summary.

  • iGoogle - iGoogle (formerly Google Personalized Homepage) is a customizable homepage with a capability to add web feeds and Google Gadgets. Reminds me of My Yahoo which is more popular to local users.
  • Google Gadgets -Google’s version of Yahoo Widgets. I havent tried this yet, but Widgets looked better than Gadgets
  • Google OpenSocial - A set of common application programming interfaces (APIs) for web-based social network applications, developed by Google, and released November 1, 2007. Looks very promising and very useful for Web Developers
  • Google Android - (Acquired by Google from Android Inc) Is an open source mobile phone platform based on the Linux operating system and developed by the Open Handset Alliance. This is more focused on developing applications for mobile phones.
  • Google Summer of Code - First held from May to August of 2005, in which Google awards stipends to students who successfully complete a free software / open-source coding project during the summer. I heard they pay $4500 each student to develop a useful application for Google, and a better chance of being hired.
  • Working @ Google - They talked about the great benefits at Google and how to get ahead with the competing applicants who dream to become a Googler. They invited all Filipinos to take their chances working for Google.

Overall the Conference was a basic introduction of the new services that Google is hoping to be fully supported by the Filipino Web Development Community and encouraging them to prepare and compete with the rest of the programmers around the world.

The funny part of the conference was most of the questions was answered something like this “Please read the documentation so you can give a more relevant question Continue reading »

Gorilla Trades

Investing in stocks requires thorough knowledge of the system. It is a full-time task. There are many available stocks in the market where anyone capable of buying stocks can invest in and people who buy stocks need to be aware that not all of these stocks can give them the results that they may be expecting. This only means that certain risks are involved. Before investors choose the stocks that they think would fit their needs, they conduct a lot of research on the company and the market trends. Factors like the supply and demand of stock affect the market trends and these are taken into consideration by people who invest in stocks. Thus, we can say that these investors are really clever shoppers.

Another clever shopper is the Gorilla. This is the savvy stock investor of Continue reading »

Rizal Helped in the 1946 Philippine Independence

Posted on November 8th, 2007 | Subscribe in a Reader | Subscribe by Email

Reading from Wikipedia, this clearly shows that Jose Rizal indirectly helped country gain her independence, even after the Spanish Regime:

After the transfer of possession to the United States as a result of the Spanish-American War, the Philippines was perceived as a community of “barbarians” incapable of self-government. Lobbying for management of Philippine affairs, U.S. Representative Henry Cooper recited the poem before the U.S. House of Representatives. Realizing the nobility of the author, his fellow congressmen enacted the Philippine Bill of 1902 (renamed Jones Law) enabling self-government, although relative complete autonomy would not be granted until 1946. The poem mentioned in the excerpt was his last poem Mi Ultimo Adiós. Continue reading »

In the event of the outbreak of online businesses, there are many companies who are struggling to get attention in the market today. Millions of people worldwide may be accessing the Internet at the same time but among these people would there be some or a lot of them who will take time to check out your site? People usually look into sites which are relevant to what they are looking for and can fulfill their needs. And when this is the case, online companies would want to be on top of the list as people search for certain keywords in relation to what they are searching for. Being on top of the list would certainly contribute to increase site traffic and from these visitors we are looking at about 2 percent of them to be converted as valuable customers.

Gorilla Off Topic

Posted on November 5th, 2007 | Subscribe in a Reader | Subscribe by Email

I came across the website gorilaofftopic.com. It is a blog site by a Gorilla who is a member of Gorilla Trades. It aims to discuss any topic outside of stocks. I think it was how it came up with the name of the website. It’s really off the topic. Just so you know, if you are not so familiar with Gorilla Trades, it is a website that provides valuable service to people who would like to venture into stock investments. Gorilla Trades offer the right stocks to choose from and become profitable with it. With regard to this blog site, it does not want to discuss anything which is in connection with stocks. Thus, I could say that the site name speaks for itself.

Even if it does not talk about stocks, I believe that it is still an interesting blog site. There is a wide range of topics that Continue reading »
